- Accumulator
- A bet that groups multiple outcomes; each win increases the payout, but a single loss loses the whole bet.
- Asian Handicap
- A spread that removes the draw option by giving the underdog a half‑ or full‑goal head start.
- Bankroll
- The total money you have earmarked for placing bets.
- Bonus
- Extra betting credit or a free bet given by a sportsbook, usually subject to rules.
- Bookmaker
- An organization that decides the odds and takes bets on games.
- Cash Out
- An option to take your winnings (or cut your loss) before the match ends, at a reduced amount.
- Decimal Odds
- Odds shown as a single number that includes your stake; multiplying your bet by this figure gives the total payout.
- Edge
- Your supposed advantage over the bookmaker, usually gained through research or insight.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds written as a fraction where the top number is the profit you’d make for every unit of the bottom number you bet.
- Hedging
- Betting on the opposite outcome to protect your original bet, sometimes securing a sure profit.
- Lay Bet
- Betting that something will not happen, usually offered on betting exchanges.
- Live Betting
- Betting on a game that is already happening, with odds that change during the match.
- Margin
- The bookmaker’s guaranteed profit margin, shown as a percentage of the actual odds.
- Moneyline
- A simple bet on which team will win the match, with odds shown as a plus or minus number.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total goals in a match will be more or less than a predetermined figure.
- Parlay
- One bet that combines multiple picks; every selection must win for you to get a return.
- Point Spread
- A handicap added to the underdog’s score to make both teams equally attractive to bettors.

- ROI
- A measure of your betting profit or loss compared with the total amount you have wagered.
- Stake
